SAMPLE NATION 034 // MICALL PARKNSUN

Two hours of UK Hip-Hop, new and old. Celebrating the incredible producer and MC; Micall Parknsun. I was first introduced to his work randomly buying a Skriblah 12” in MSM, on which he was just called Parky. But I think for me I really took notice with his debut album Working Class Dad, which is just an beautiful album from start to finish with tracks produced by LG, Beatbutcher, Apa-Tight (sick producer) and himself. If you follow him on IG, you’ll see he is constantly banging out proper lovely beats on the regular, so I just wanted to big up his production which is consistently sick but also an selection of proper decent MC features. Hope you enjoy it

SAMPLE NATION 033 // SUPA T // SUNDRAGON

SAMPLE NATION 033 // SUPA T // SUNDRAGON //

I’m a huge fan of Supa T, from his work with Champions of Nature to his solo stuff and his many features, his body of work is relatively small but it’s hugely influential and massively consistent. This is show is a celebration of his work, from the group stuff to mix tape freestyles. Sadly he retired and we never got a full album, I heard he now works doing graphic design, but couldn’t find him online.. What’s weird about Supa T is how little information there is online, no interview and barely any pictures, hence the strange looking image I made. To kick the show off a couple new tracks from the likes of Vice Beats with his tribute to Dilla, something from Badbonez new album which is so, so lovely. There’s a new track from Tenchoo off his new album, which features a load of MCs and a few other new bits for you to check out..

Hope you enjoy because Supa T is the don

SAMPLE NATIOn 032 // RAWKUS // EMINEM

Eminem recently released a surprise new album, so I took a look at some of his early work with Skam, his first album, his work with Rawkus Records and a retrospective of some of the indie labels best work. As it’s Itch FM, just to even out the US, you get a load of classic UK Hip-Hop from the early 2000’s to now.

SAMPLE NATION 030 // JOE BUHDHA

SAMPLE NATION 030 // JOE BUHDHA

Joe Buhdha’s work with Kyza, Klashnekoff and Rodney P in the early 2000s created sounds and styles that have continued to be imitated throughout the UK scene. Despite releasing very few songs, his work really has changed the UK sound and he’s created artist defining music that hasn’t been equaled since. I look forward to much more music from the man, but in the meantime here is two hours of his best work and a selection of new UK Hip-Hop for additional enjoyment

SAMPLE NATION 028 // PETE ROCK

One of the select few legendary producers that really changed the face of Hip-Hop with his style and sample selection. The chops and samples were so unique for the time and his style has seeped into so much modern Hip-Hop that’s followed. Considering how influential he is, it’s so weird to see how little music he’s actually put out… Quality over quantity..

This show is two hours of classic bangers, b-sides, remixes, album cuts and original samples

SAMPLE NATION 027 // Q-TIP PRODUCTION

One of the things that isn’t said enough is how great a producer Q-Tip is, obviously the Tribe stuff is incredible, but his work with Nas, Mobb Deep, and loads of others, all just nothing short of incredible (we’ll forget about the Anderson Paak stuff).. one of the first to bring jazz samples into the mainstream and really do something special with them, he always made the beat fit the artist.

This show is just a quick snapshot of some of his best work, mixed in with a load of new UK Hip-Hop from High Focus, Blah Records, Revorg Records and a really lovely new song by CLBRKS

SAMPLE NATION 026 // G-FUNK SYNTH

Two hours of Westcoast G-Funk with that Moog style synth and Hip-Hop inspired by that incredible sound.

Mostly West Coast, but there’s some East Coast and Southern Hip-Hop in there as well.

This episode was my favourite to put together and I’d actually been working on a mixtape using some of these songs for some time, so it was just nice to play some of these classics

SAMPLE NATION 024 // FOREIGN BEGGARS

SAMPLE NATION 024 // FOREIGN BEGGARS

For me Foreign Beggars debut album Asylum Speakers is up there with 36 Chambers, a perfect Hip-Hop album. An Album I can listen to from start to finish, an incredible collection of featured artists and even the skits alone will have me singing along. Sadly they recently broke up as a group, so I felt I should celebrate the music they created over the years.

So here is two hours of some of my favourite Beggar’s tracks, mixed in with some new UK bits and pieces and a couple Original Samples

Enjoy

Sample Nation 022 // Dark Circle

I was first introduced to Dark Circle’s music by a friend of mind Migz, about 15 years ago. I’ve been a huge ever since and finally got to see them live at the Foreign Beggars Asylum Speakers 10 year anniversary. You can hear the influence of their production in a lot of UK Hip-Hop and their music really still sounds fresh today. Enjoy this collection of B-sides, Features and album cuts.. There’s also a few new UK bits and some classic US Original Samples
